CONTROLLER

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general direction the President or the CFO,
manages the financial and accounting processes for Grace Homes Real Estate
& Construction. Is also a member of the corporate management team and
represents Grace Homes to the business public on a regular basis.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees all accounting and bookkeeping functions.

  1. Manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash requirements and check processing.
  2. Understand the principles of customer service and in recognize that "good" service often requires a "shocking level of response".
  3. Communicate and project the Grace Homes, “We care” attitude to all customers and employees through all forms of communication
    (writing, verbal, appearance).
  4. Handles and reconciles all checking accounts, including a "hand checking" petty cash account at corporate office.
  5. Processes month end journal and closing entries and produces financial reports in timely fashion. Reports include balance sheet, income statement and cash flow forecast and job costs.
  6. Prepares cash requirements report for each check run for approval by President or CFO. A cash flow projection report is often a portion of this procedure.
  7. Holds regular staff meetings, conducts quarterly growth reviews and motivates assigned staff to positive performance measurements.
  8. Attend and participate in regular management team meetings for Grace Homes.
  9. Tracks and reports on operational performance benchmarks and actual results. Uses trend analysis to keep management team informed of areas of needed improvement.
  10. Assists Construction Ops Manager and Estimator/Purchasing with monthly PO variance analysis.
  11. Maintains internal accounting controls to ensure professional and secure handling of Grace Homes finances.
  12. Approves invoices for payment, new vendors for addition, and TBD and non-job invoices for additions.
  13. Voids checks when necessary.
  14. Adds and approves new construction loan information.
  15. Adds and approves AJE's, and also adds monthly closing AJE's.
  16. Approves and adds new GL Accounts. Also closes GL monthly.

PREREQUISITES FOR SUCCESS: Technical construction ability to plan
efficient construction, price special construction options for sales and to
diagnose and resolve field problems

  1. People skills to articulately and professionally handle communication with customers, employees and vendors and treat all stakeholders with respect and consideration.
  2. Accounting and Finance ability to maintain accurate records, depreciation schedules, and to ensure tax returns and financial statements are accurate.
  3. Organizational aptitude to manage a multi-person and time demanding department.
  4. Computer aptitude and willingness to learn to process needed data and to communicate via reports, spreadsheets and letters.
  5. Experience with tax returns, insurance procurement and audit procedures.
  6. Must have understanding and willingness to process draw requests in a timely fashion and to insist upon accurate reporting to/from banks.
  7. Ability to hold confidential information that is proprietary to the management of Grace Homes

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

REPORTS TO: CFO

WORKS WITH:  Centralized Accounting Department, Superintendents.
Construction Ops Manager, and outside vendors and subcontractors.

SUPERVISES: Accounting Staff
